Only three ingredients needed!

By Anna Walker.

It seems more and more women are turning to do-it-yourself beauty solutions.

Often, the key ingredients in skincare and cosmetic products can be found right in your own kitchen (olive oil, coconut oil, honey, oats), and sometimes the fresh ingredients in your own fridge can outperform what you would’ve paid fifty bucks for at the beauty counter.

Your fresh fruit has live enzymes that can exfoliate and brighten, and even your apple cider vinegar, baking powder, and spices can be multi-use beauty miracle-makers for many women.

If you’ve jumped on board the DIY beauty bandwagon, you’ll love this recipe for DIY deodorant with only three ingredients. Or, if you’re simply looking for ways to save money or be more health-conscious, this one’s for you too.

This recipe was given to me by a friend, and when I did a little research, I realized there are tons of women who have been using and loving this recipe for years … and they swear by it! So I had to give it a try. I’ve been looking for a more natural deodorant option because I’m worried about how the aluminum in deodorant may be linked to breast cancer, though it’s not necessarily proven. I’d rather be safe and know what I’m putting on my skin, and thereby absorbed into my body.

I wouldn’t share this deodorant recipe if it didn’t work. It works better than my tried-and-true favorite, Dove. I get absolutely no odor all day, and surprisingly, no sweat (even though I live in Florida). I wear it to the beach, to work, everywhere. I’m truly amazed. Let me know how it works for you!

Ingredients: 1/4 cup of baking soda, 6-8 tablespoons of coconut oil, and ¼ cup of either corn starch or arrowroot powder. (I used corn starch, simply because that’s what I had on hand, but it seems arrowroot is most recommended.)

Instructions: Mix the three ingredients until it comes together. I simply used a wooden spoon in a mixing bowl. Then, just stuff it into an old deodorant bottle (if you have one).

Mixing in progress. Just keep pressing the powders into the coconut oil to make a solid deodorant texture.

I keep mine in the fridge, but you don’t have to. Coconut oil is a solid but turns liquid when it gets warm. So, if you live in a humid or warm climate, it might be better to store in the fridge. Enjoy and stay stink-free!

Voila! Store in a container and use fingers to apply, or stuff it into an empty deodorant bottle.
